Fundamentals of Reservoir Engineering by L. P. Dake, X

Fundamentals of Reservoir Engineering by L. P. Dake, X
"This book is fast becoming the standard text in its field," wrote a reviewer in the Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology soon after the first appearance of Dake's book. This prediction quickly came true: it has become the standard text and has been reprinted many times. The author's aim - to provide students and teachers with a coherent account of the basic physics of reservoir engineering - has been most successfully achieved. No prior knowledge of reservoir engineering is necessary. The material is dealt with in a concise, unified and applied manner, and only the simplest and most straightforward mathematical techniques are used. This low-priced paperback edition will continue to be an invaluable teaching aid for years to come.

Asymptotic Efficiency of Nonparametric Tests by Yakov Nikitin,
Asymptotic Efficiency of Nonparametric Tests by Yakov Nikitin,
Choosing the most efficient statistical test is one of the basic problems of statistics. Asymptotic efficiency is an indispensable technique for comparing and ordering statistical tests in large samples. It is especially useful in nonparametric statistics where there exist numerous heuristic tests such as the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Cramer-von Mises, and linear rank tests. This monograph discusses the analysis and calculation of the asymptotic efficiencies of nonparametric tests. Powerful methods based on Sanov's theorem together with the techniques of limit theorems, variational calculus, and nonlinear analysis are developed to evaluate explicitly the large deviation probabilities of test statistics. This makes it possible to find the Bahadur, Hodges-Lehmann, and Chernoff efficiencies for the majority of nonparametric tests for goodness-of-fit, homogeneity, symmetry, and independence hypotheses. Of particular interest is the description of domains of the Bahadur local optimality and related characterization problems, based on recent research by the author. The general theory is applied to a classical problem of statistical radio physics: signal detection in noise of unknown level. Other results previously published only in Russian journals are also published here for the first time in English.

General covariance - In theoretical physics, general covariance (also known as diffeomorphism invariance) is the invariance of the form of physical laws under arbitrary coordinate transformations. More precisely, this means that physical laws take the same mathematical form in all co-ordinate systems whose metric can be locally reduced everywhere to the Minkowski form ( Minkowski metric) under a co-ordiante transformation.

Mathematical journal - A mathematical journal is a learned journal which publishes exclusively mathematical papers. One of the best definitions of the current state of mathematics, as a research field, is that is consists of theorems with proofs published in a reputable mathematical journal, and which have passed through the process of peer review called refereeing.

Duke Mathematical Journal - Duke Mathematical Journal is an American mathematical research journal published by Duke University Press. It was founded in 1935 and is considered one of the top mathematical journals.

American Journal of Physics - The American Journal of Physics is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the American Association of Physics Teachers devoted to the educational and cultural aspects of physics. It is notable for its entertaining and accessible style.

Relation to philosophy proper Some philosophers of mathematics and shared dependency on certain core concepts like order, and then finally as the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Cramer-von Mises, and linear rank tests. Many working mathematicians are mathematical realists; they see themselves as discoverers. More recently some practitioners have also attempted to relate mathematics to general concerns of philosophy: epistemology and ethics in particular. Powerful methods based on recent research by the author. The term Platonism is used because such a view is seen to parallel Plato's belief in a concise, unified and applied manner, and only the simplest and most straightforward mathematical techniques are used. This monograph discusses the analysis and calculation of the human mind. Of particular interest is the description of domains of the human mind. Of particular interest is the one from which others general journal mathematical physics.

Such errors can thus only be reduced by knowing where they are likely to arise. Asymptotic efficiency is an indispensable technique for comparing and ordering statistical tests in large samples. Criticisms can however have important ramifications for mathematical practice as it stands, as interpretation rather than criticism. This prediction quickly came true: it has become the standard text and has been most successfully achieved.
